In the United States, those who are still completing their PhD studies are not encouraged to seek employment especially while on graduate training. For their financial needs, some PhD students accept teaching and research assistantships from the same university where they are finishing their PhD studies. Others, on the other hand, are still able to pursue their PhD studies even without regular work through tuition waiver and annual stipend. Furthermore, most graduate schools encourage PhD students to avail of research grants that are provided by some government agencies. Universities that are well-funded usually provide funds for PhD students throughout when their PhD studies will end.
